At Dorset Tea we love the planet as much as we love great tea and we have been working hard to make all of our products environmentally friendly. We are really excited to announce that as of 13th October 2020 all of our range will be packed in biodegradable teabags. This has been quite a process to get right and some of our products have been biodegradable for a while. Here is a breakdown product by product so you can see clearly where we are with the changeover.

Sunshine Blend:

Our sunshine blend teabags have historically been made with an oil-based plastic, however we have found a plant-based plastic called PLA as a solution. PLA is made from wood pulp and vegetable starch, it is non-GMO and sustainably sourced, PLA teabags are industrially compositable which means that they can go in your food waste or garden waste bins for the council to compost.

Our 40s are already packed in PLA teabags.

Our 250 string, tag & envelope use a method of folding without the need to heat seal so there is no polypropylene in these teabags and are already perfect for your food waste bin.

Our 1,100 bulk bags will be moving to PLA paper as of the end of September 2020.

Our 80s will be packed in PLA paper as of the 2nd October 2020.

Our decaf will be packed in PLA paper as of the 13th October 2020.

Premium Pyramid Range;
The teabag material used in our Dorset Tea premium pyramid range is environmentally friendly, made from woven mesh filter derived from corn starch of natural origin. Dorset Tea premium pyramid range teabags can be biodegraded completely in soil or compost under the correct conditions. After you've finished your brew simply pop the tea bags in your food waste bin.

Fruit and Herbal Infusions;
Our fruit and herbal infusion range uses a method of folding the paper without the need of heat sealing, this means that there is no polypropylene required in these tea bags. Like our Premium Pyramid range, simply pop the tea bags in your food waste bin after you've enjoyed your cuppa!

  1. Really pleased that you are moving across to plastic-free teabags so quickly. I've only just discovered that most teabags are not as compostable as I thought, so I will only be buying clearly labelled plastic-free bags from now on.
